Bylaws

Ace (Ace Homeschool Association) is a homeschool support group serving Catawba County , North Carolina , and surrounding areas. For purposes of this document, “homeschool” is defined as “a non-public school in which one or more children of not more than two families or households receive academic instruction from parents or legal guardians, or a member of either household.” (North Carolina General Statutes §115C-563)

In the event that Ace dissolves, all assets shall be distributed to the Catawba Science Center .

Article I:                Name

The name of this organization is Ace Homeschool Association (Ace).

 Article II:               Purpose

Ace’s purpose is to help new and continuing home educators by:

A.                  Providing help and encouragement to parents to fulfill their God-given rights and responsibilities to educate their own children;

B.                  Providing direction to information on the legal aspects of home education (e.g., contact information for the North Carolina General Statutes, North Carolina Division of Non-Public Education, North Carolinians for Home Education, Home School Legal Defense Association);

C.                  Providing information on curricula and other resource materials;

D.                  Providing timely information about Ace events;

E.                   Providing  peer support  and networking opportunities to families choosing home education for their children; and

F.                  Promoting home education as an excellent educational alternative.

 

Article III:             Ideals of Home Education

Ace holds that the ideals of home education are:

A.                  To represent the homeschool community in a positive way;

B.                  To serve as a non-profit support group for all homeschooling families in and around the Catawba County, NC area;

C.                  To provide a positive socialization environment for homeschooled children;

D.                  To support and encourage parents in the homeschooling process;

E.                   Provide an atmosphere for exchange of teaching techniques and curriculum information;

F.                   To keep the group informed of any homeschool current events and information through a monthly newsletter;

G                   To promote public awareness of home education;

H.                 Diligence in moral and ethical instruction based on traditional family values;

I.                   Educational excellence; and

J.                   Responsible Citizenship.

 

Article IV:             Membership

A.                  All those wishing to become members of Ace must agree (by completing the Yahoo Group registration) to:

1.                   Attend  the annual meeting on the second Friday in September;

2.                   Honor the ideals of Ace; and

3.                   Abide by the Standards of Conduct as established by Ace.

B.                  Membership is offered on a household basis.

C.                  Membership is free.

D.                  To qualify for Membership, applicants must:

1.                   Live in Catawba County or any bordering county and

2.                   Have one or more children:

a.                    Pre-compulsory school age OR

b.                   Currently enrolled in a homeschool that is registered with DNPE and/or in full compliance with North Carolina homeschooling law OR

c.                    Graduated from homeschooling.

E.                   The following benefits are provided to all members:

1.                   A monthly newsletter published from August through July

2.                   Access to Ace yahoo group and website

3.                   Participation in Ace activities

4.                   Membership directory

5.                   The right to vote in on all Ace member voted issues.

F.             Membership may be revoked by a two-thirds (⅔) vote of the Organization Committee and Director upon violation by the member of the Standards of Conduct or any other written provision approved by the organization committee.

Article V:               Organization Committee and Director

A.                The Organization Committee and the Director are the primary governing bodies of Ace and will make decisions based on biblical principles.

B.                The Organization Committee will consist of 5 Full members— Members Coordinator, Events Coordinator, News Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator, and Classes/Trips Coordinator

C.                The Organization Committee and Director appoint Coordinator vacancies or replace Coordinators with a (2/3) vote. Any member wanting to serve as a Coordinator may submit their name to the Director.

D.                  The Organization Committee and Director may remove a Coordinator by two-thirds (⅔) vote.
